New Born Kittens Facts and Photos - Day 6 and 7
First some kitten development facts for days 1 through 7, then some pictures of Poppy’s kittens. BTW, there are 4 of them as I thought. Since Poppy is a feral Mom, she won’t let me near them while she’s in the room. But I’ve discovered how to get her out of the room so I can socialize the kittens, but that’s another story for another day…
Kitten facts
Day 1 - kittens weigh about 3.5 ounces at birth and are born with their eyes shut.
Usually kittens begin to suckle within 1 to 2 hours after birth. They pull themselves around by their front legs and move their head side-to-side with their mouths open until they find a nipple to latch onto.
Day 2 - Each kitten in the litter by day 2 has picked a teat that they usually use from then on (a teat order, it’s called).
Day 3 - The kittens umbilical cord drops off. Usually the Mom will lick off most of the cord shortly after birth when she cleans the kitten and afterbirth.
Day 7 - Kittens weight will have doubled by this time.
We can finally confirm 4 kittens
Isn’t that little face just adorable? I’ll have more in the next couple of days.

Lee here. I can’t wait to see these kittens. Poppy will let me sniff her nose, but she won’t let me in to see the kittens yet. I can’t wait! Gonna go sit by Poppy’s door. Maybe she’ll let me see them today. Lee out.
