February 24 is National Feral Cat Day. Join with me in standing up for these voiceless cats. Many are feral while some are pets that have been abandoned by their owners. Left to fend for themselves. We humans created the problem, let us solve it through the humane program of TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return). It doesn’t have to be a choice between saving birds and saving cats. See how to save both by getting more information about TNR at Save Feral Cats….

I found this wonderful quote on It Matters To Me blogspot.

“They are just stray cats.” I beg to differ. They are NOT just stray cats. They are the result of irresponsible pet owners. Humans that choose to not spay and neuter their pets. Humans that choose to let their cats roam and reproduce. Humans that think of our society as a throw away society. Humans that move and leave their cats to fend for themselves. It is a sad reality. But, it is reality. Until humans can accept responsibility for their pets, their will always be the homeless strays, and feral cats.

There are many ways animal shelters can stop killing so many cats and dogs. Here are 7:

1. TNR education for the public
2. Run TNR programs along with volunteers
3. Spay/Neuter eduction — Start with the kids
4. Spay/Neuter programs — low-cost and free
5. Join with rescue groups to find homes
6. Educate people to keep cats indoors
7. Work to create laws crack down on puppy mills

As you can see, all of the ways need people, you and I, to make it happen. In the USA, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized - killed - every year. Not because they are dangerous or seriously sick with no way to recover, but simply because we humans don’t take care of the pets we have. We have to take responsibility to get our pets spayed/neutered so that there are fewer unwanted pets that end up in shelters.
